Ratio and Proportion
What is a ratio?
Comparison of two or more quantities of the same kind by division
Ex- Ratio of Boys to Girls 20:10
Ex- Ratio between 250gm and 2kg
Ratio between 5 minutes and 30 secs
Few points about ratio-
Expressed in simplest term
Order of terms is important
Ratio exist only between quantities of same kind
and they should have the same units

Inverse ratio
Compound ratio
Duplicate ratio

Inverse ratio of a:b is b:a
One ratio is the inverse of another if their product is 1
Compound Ratio
Compound ratio of a:b and c:d is ac:bd
Duplicate ratio
A ratio compounded to itself is duplicate ratio.Thus duplicate ratio of a:b is a2:b2
Triplicate ratio
A ratio compounded to itself two time is triplicate ratio.Thus triplicate ratio of a:b is a3:b3
Sub Duplicate ratio- Square root
If a:b is duplicate ratio of c:d then c:d is sub-duplicate ratio of a:b
